VD 17: Digitization for the Bibliography of Books Printed in German Speaking Countries from 1601 to 1700 (VD17)
This project aims at the digitization of 9,000 prints for the Bibliography of Books Printed in German Speaking Countries from 1601 to 1700 (VD17) within the next six years. In total 1.2 million pages will be digitized and made accessible online, 585,000 pages are to be completed within the first three years. The project is a substantial contribution to the visualization of Germanys cultural heritage in the internet. Because of Leipzigs significance as the main centre of German bookprinting in the 17th century this project is of paramount importance for the reconstruction of 17th century printing history.
The digitized prints will be presented via the VD17 database, the union catalogue of the Südwestdeutscher Bibliotheksverbund, the local OPAC and the local catalogue HisBest, as well as via the overarching catalogues WorldCat and Karlsruher Virtueller Katalog. PURLs and digital images will be made accessible via an OAI interface and can thus be displayed in the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek and the Europeana.
