Loan periods and fines

The standard loan period is 30 days for the circulating collection, 7 days for items of the reference collection (green tag).

Renewal up to six times is allowed for circulating items, three times for items of the reference collection. Please log on to your library account to renew items.

For faculty and PhD students of Leipzig University, different loan periods apply.

All library materials are subject to recall. If a recall has been placed on an item you have borrowed, you will be notified by email. You cannot renew it and you must return the item by the due date to avoid fines. It is therefore recommended to return library materials before leaving campus for a week or longer in order to avoid fines.

Materials which cannot be borrowed:

• All journals
• Materials published before 1920

"Why haven't I received an email reminder?"

All emails to students of Leipzig University are sent to their university email address.

• Have you configured an email forwarding service to your private email address?
• Please verify your email address in 'My Account'.
• Please check your junk mail.

Please note: Email reminders and service emails are always of an advisory nature and have no effect on due dates.

Your library account will be automatically suspended if you have outstanding fines of €15 or more.

Once your account is suspended, you will not be able to:

• Borrow or renew items
• Place orders or recalls
• Use the computers in the library
• Reserve group study rooms

Your account will normally be reactivated once you have paid your outstanding fines.

Unpaid fines are reminded monthly by automated service email.
After three times notice, we reserve the right to hand the procedure over to the Legal Affairs at the Leipzig University.

Several options are available:

• EC Card (debit card): At the payment machines at Bibliotheca Albertina, Campus Library, Library of Education and Sport Science, and Medicine and Sciences Library
• Cash: At the service counters at Bibliotheca Albertina, the Campus Library, the Law Library I, the Library of Education and Sports Science and the Library of Veterinary Medicine during service hours from Monday to Friday
• Bank transfer: Fines totalling €10 or more can be paid by bank transfer.
  If you wish to pay this way, Leipzig University Library will send you an invoice. To do so, we will require your current address. Please contact us at info@ub.uni-leipzig.de.

If you have lost or damaged a library item, please fill in and sign this form and hand it in at the service counter. The staff at the service counter will explain procedure and options.
